Our Mission:
To provide cooling vests, and other protective gear such as Doggles, MuttLuks, and any other necessary gear
to help the Military Working Dogs in Iraqs extreme conditions, who in turn protect and serve our Soldiers.

Starline Nunley and Support Military Working Dogs Recognized for Volunteer Work . . .
In recognition for her countless hours of volunteer work and generous donations, Starline Nunley was awarded "Volunteer of the Month" by the Commander of the 4th Squadron, 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment, Lt. Col. Dale Watson during a May visit to Fort Hood, Texas. During this time, Support Military Working Dogs also received a "Certificate of Appreciation" from 3rd Corps (Rear Commander, Major General William Grimsloy).

MWD Team Home from Sykes Kennel,
Get to Stay Together . . .
SGT Marco Garced has returned to the States and was able to keep MWD Grace. She was to be retired after his tour with her.

He wrote to Starline . . .

"Hello Mrs. Nunley...Good news! I got to keep Grace...lol. We arrived in the states last week, where it was confirmed, Grace was mine! Well, she is here with me now, laying on the floor enjoying life. My wife and kids are in love with her, they are spoiling her rotten. I want to thank you for all the hard work, time and effort, you put into securing donations for our K-9 teams. Thanks again, for making it a bearable year..."

More MWD Teams . . .
We are really getting a lot of new MWD's to support and it doesn't look like it's going to slow down anytime soon. This is an ongoing support program for all our MWDs and Handlers around the world. Just in the past week-and-a-half we have 15 dogs at Ft. Lewis, WA., 20 MWD's at Peterson AFB in Colorado and 10 MWD's at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

Say a prayer for Gabe...
MWD Gabe and Chuck were among some of the first MWDs and handlers I took care of. Their picture is on the second page of our website left hand side. Drinking water out of a bottle.

Just recently, the vet has found a cancerous tumor in Gabes leg and he goes to surgery on the 1st of April . . . we're all praying for Gabe after all he has done for our soldiers and our country.

Chuck was a dog handler in the army and Gabe was his MWD. In fact he re-enlisted twice in order to be able to stay with Gabe. When he came back to TX Gabe wouldn't work for anyone else so they retired him and Chuck was able to adopt him. He is a beautiful and awesome dog. He is very highly decorated. Chuck is still in the Army.

Dog Lovers
We need your help . . . As we our soldiers transfer out of Iraq and Afganistan, we lose our contacts to the new handlers coming in. If you know of a soldier going over, ask them if they know of any MWD teams going too. Or if you know someone over there, drop them an e-mail to ask if they have any MWD teams with or around their unit. The more teams we can outfit, the better they can serve to protect all our loved ones.

    Our Prayers Go Out . . .
It is with deepest regreat that we mourn the loss of these great heros.
Our prayers go out to the family of
MWD handler SPC Brandon Steffey and CTD Macy
who were lost to a roadside IED as they traveled in their transport.
They were buried together as they served in life
and travel together still.

Notes from Starline . . .
Just wanted to share with you what East Hilliard Veterinary Services in Hilliard, OH has done for us. They also did this last year before Christmas. This year they also sewed some stockings for the soldiers and MWD's for me so that I could fill them with goodies that have been donated to us. There are some really wonderful people who support our soldiers both four and two legged.

We are now able to supply ear protection
for the MWDs who fly...

It was brought to our attention by one of the handlers, that many of the teams are put into helicopters to fly from location to location quickly, and in the past, the MWDs have had no ear protection which is very uncomfortable for them and potentially harmful for their hearing. We are grateful for the input from the handlers on what their MWDs could best benefit from, the better the MWDs can work, the better our men and women overseas are protected.

June was very busy...
We've been able to make contact with four new kennels and outfit a total of 49 new dogs. All of this has been made possible by the contributions large and small from all over the country. Your generosity has kept the spirits of the handlers and MWDs up and positive and made their job just that little bit easier.

We've also found out, that as the main military forces are moving out of Iraq, more MWD teams are being sent in to replace them. Since these teams are especially adept at explosive detection, it's become more critical to find them with less personnel to police areas in general. So our efforts to help keep them more effective and protected as we can is still as important as well.

Here is an overview of kennels and facilities that we've been able to make contact with throughout the past year and provide the gear requested. We have expanded to active kennels in other countries as there is great need there also. As it turns out many of the Military Working Dogs in Iraq are now being sent over to Afghanistan and the Kaiserslautern Kennel in Germany is a main deployment point for them all over Europe and the Middle East. Many of these kennels in the list below have had handlers and MWDs change over and so we've supplied the new incoming teams as well. So even though the kennel is mentioned by name only once, the total number of MWDs supplied is current.
