His life was taken too soon but
died a true fighter till the end, he took the hits of a rattlesnake
to save his pack and me, he was always like that protecting me.
He could do it all and did so for me. He is greatly missed, I
will meet him at The Rainbow Bridge, he would have been a great
Wardog.

Fritz
von der Kahler Heide
German Shepherd
He was a police officer with the Atlanta, GA Police Department
He was the best dog that ever lived. When
we adopted him, he was retrained for home and family protection.
All his commands were given in German.
Every night, before bed...even when he was very old, I would
say, "Fritz, Bed!" He would grumble a bit when he was
older, but he'd always get up, and walk the house. He would inspect
every single opening (doors, windows) in the house to make sure
they were secure. If one was open, he would sit and bark. Then,
he'd come lay by my side on the floor, on his special orthopedic
pad, and wait for me to pat him and tell him it was ok to go
to sleep.
He was 105 lbs, and could take down a man 225lbs in about 4 seconds.
He liked to steal shoes. He would not chew them, just take them
and put them in his bed. I think the smell of his people comforted
him. He's the only dog I ever saw that could bite a black Kong
in half. A black one...you have to know Kongs to understand that
significance.
I still can't get another dog. Someday I will. For now, I'm afraid
the new dog would not measure up. That would be unfair to the
new GSD. I will get over it, but not today.
